Lighthouse Women and Children's Mission

About Us

The Lighthouse Women & Children's Mission, serving homeless single women, and women with children, established its Life Recovery program in 1998 offering a transitional living program that included programming for recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction. In December of 2003, the Lighthouse established the Safe Harbor Emergency Care program which is a year-round emergency shelter that also serves as an overflow shelter when the two domestic violence shelters in the County are full.

In November 2007, the Lighthouse acquired two additional facilities to further expand both programs. Today, with an overall capacity of 82 beds, the Lighthouse offers a complete continuum of services specifically tailored in response to the needs of homeless women and children by offering shelter, intervention, substance abuse recovery, case management, education, life skills development, vocational training, employment, and housing assistance.

Refuge

The Lighthouse Women and Children’s Mission is committed to alleviating homelessness and hunger through our Emergency shelter, employment search and recovery programs. Annually, the Lighthouse serves over 23,000 nutritious meals; provides over 2,500 articles of clothing, 10,000 shelter beds and
showers and over 2,000 hours of case management services. In addition to the emergency shelter employment search and recovery, the Lighthouse offers spiritual renewal and hope through chapel services and biblical counseling.

Recovery

Our long-term, life recovery program blends effective clinical treatment with biblically based discipleship and mentoring to bring about real, life-changing results. The Lighthouse residential program is designed to support the total family without fragmenting children to relatives or foster homes. Life skills, recovery and parenting classes, combined with biblical counseling, help residents learn valuable skills to achieve their goals in vocation, education, employment, and permanent housing.

“When I entered the Lighthouse program, I was out of prison, depressed, and walked with my head down, never feeling like I could amount to anything. All my life I was told that I was a loser and would never amount to much. I believed those lies before I came to the Lighthouse.” –Former Resident

Restoration

We offer more than a hand out. We give each person served a much needed hand up. Our vocational training program prepares our graduates to succeed in the workplace and become self-supporting. With job training programs like Auto Sales, Thrift Store Industries and our Call Center, many of our graduates have successfully entered the workforce with the valuable job skills they need to sustain their independence. Our Employment Search Program prepares its
participants to succeed in finding a career, not just a job, thus succeeding in the
workplace and becoming self-reliant.

“I don’t think I ever really had the courage to say, God I can’t do this without you...While I was at Lighthouse, they made me feel that I wasn’t a failure, and that nobody can do it on their own. Through Jesus Christ, I have found joy in serving God and happiness in my life again, which I didn’t have when I first arrived.” –Former Graduate
