Changing Lives for Good
Central Coast Rescue Mission
Hello, my name is Travis Miller. Before coming to the mission, I was using a lot of drugs and my drug of choice was methamphetamines. My life was going downhill fast and I was doing lots of jail time. I have three young children, all boys, eight years old, six years old, and eighteen months old. When I was doing drugs, I did not see them very often because I was more concerned about doing my own thing.
Since coming to the mission, I don't want to use drugs anymore. I have started turning my life back around by getting closer to my family and children. I have recently obtained a new business license and plan on starting back up my Miller's Pressure Washing Company in the Santa Maria area. I would like to thank the community and donors for supporting the mission to help people like me who need another chance. With God's help, my business will take off again and things will continue to get better.

My mother has always been there for me. She has always clothed me, fed me and has always been there to teach me about life. She has tried to encourage me and she inspires me. In spite of that, I have been an alcoholic and my mother, fiancé, and children were very disappointed in me.
When I first arrived at the mission, from jail, on October 5, 2009, I did not know what to think of this place. After a short while, I started feeling more comfortable and started thanking God for bringing me here. Now I have a new way of thinking and feeling. I truly believe that if I were not placed here that my alcoholism would have continued to get worse and worse.
Since coming to the mission, I have been taught the Word of God and have learned a lot more about Spirituality than any church has ever tried to teach me. I owe my thanks to the mission staff and all the guys here with me at the program who are so much help and support. Most importantly, I thank Jesus Christ, because I now have my family back in my life and a great perspective. Now I am happy with who I am, and my mother can be proud of me.
My name is Scott. Before coming to the mission, my life consisted of using drugs and alcohol. I had to pretty much raise myself and, when time's got bad, I turned to drugs. I came from a broken home and lived with my grandparents growing up. I did graduate, however, from high school and even attended college. But, I never got anywhere because I was on drugs. I ended up in drug court and have failed some programs. I used to be in a band, but my drug use was so bad they kicked me out. Since coming to the mission, I have a better understanding of God. I know that if I do not trust Him, I will have nothing. I plan on going back to college and getting my degree in music. I also may be interested in becoming a chef. God is working in my life and I am looking forward to what he has planned for my future.
I'm E. J. Brewer. Before I came to the mission, the life I was trying to live was very empty. I was living a lie and had a relationship with the devil himself. I didn’t even realize how bad a lifestyle I was living. My denial and addictions were covering up hurts, hang-ups, and reality. Let’s just say I was going down a dead end street, and the end was coming real soon. I was getting high, lying, cheating, and thinking that everything would be fine. I came to the mission because I was about to hit rock bottom. I was in a serious state of denial. I was caught up in my own addictions and every one else were the ones with the problems.
My girlfriend showed me my need to accept Jesus before I came to the mission. The rescue mission has allowed me to take the time to look at life in a completely different way. I have grown in my understanding of God. Actually, the mission is the reason I even have any understanding. The mission helped me realize what my life us really worth. I will be leaving the mission with a very comfortable state of mind. I am a Christian, and very proud of it. I am going back to my beautiful family and I will provide for them like I am supposed to. I will be the man and father that my fiancé and kids have always wanted and deserved. And its all because I have Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Thank you God.
Before I came to the mission, my life was a mess. I was looking at a few years in prison. And, I had a serious drinking problem. I realized I needed to change my life. I needed God back in my life. Coming to the mission was the only way I could make the change I needed. This was my chance to make a real change in the way my life was going.
Since being at the mission, I no longer drink alcohol. God is back in my life. He is answering my prayers. I even have my family back. Now I have a job with the Central City Tree Service. By the time I graduate, I will be able to get my own place here in Santa Maria. I am so grateful for the help I am getting here at the mission. - Michael Ozuna
My name is Nicholas Verbryke. My grandmother is very religious and was praying before dinner one night when we were visiting. I was four years old and I asked grandma why she was talking to her food. I did not know that she was praying. She explained about God and Jesus and then asked if I would like to ask Jesus into my life. In Bunch, Oklahoma the fall of 1989 I asked Jesus to be my Lord and Savior. Over the years my path has been winding and I’ve done more stupid things than most would dare to. I began really drifting away from the Lord in high school. I went to a catholic school and nothing will turn a person from religion faster than having it forced on you. I wound up working during the week and then I would drink and party all weekend.
I was required by the court to enter a residential treatment program. I chose the mission because it was close to home, but it turned out to be a rewarding experience. I am sober, my life is back on track, and I have more drive to get things done. Recently I have been getting closer to the Lord in my every day life and I have confidence that only good can come if I walk with the Lord. I am currently an apprentice aircraft mechanic and plan on becoming certified in about a year. I now have a goal and a plan to work toward that goal.
