San Fernado Valley Rescue Mission In The News

George Hoag Family Foundation Renews its Partnership

May 2010 - The George Hoag Family Foundation renewed its partnership with the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission this year, awarding a $10,000 grant in support of the Family Shelter. The foundation’s generous support and continued interest in the program will help the mission to provide food, clothing, and shelter for many homeless families in need.

New Director hired for Rescue Mission

April 2010 - The San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission has hired Bryan McKinney to serve as the new director of the mission. McKinney, who resides in Winnetka, brings a wealth of experience in non-profit leadership to the organization. He served 12 years as the Vice President of Ministry Development for the Children's Hunger Fund, a top rated hunger relief charity based in Pacoima.

McKinney, a devoted husband and father, has a deep concern for suffering people and extensive experience developing multiple aspects of a non-profit organization in an executive role.

"We are very excited to welcome Bryan to the rescue mission. His compassion for the poor and homeless and organizational leadership experience will make a tremendous difference here in the Valley," says Frank Mastrolonardo, Vice President of Ministries for the Rescue Mission Alliance.

"We're looking forward to serving families in need during these increasingly difficult times. This is a task too great for any single organization, so we anticipate coming along side others in the effort to accomplish our mission," says McKinney.

Food Drive at Saugus Swap Meet will Benefit Mission Families

March 2010 - Following the success of its Coat Drive in January, Saugus Swap Meet is holding a Canned Food Drive during the month of April. According to the local food pantries, spring and summer are their hardest times. Donations received during the holidays have been handed out to families in need and their cupboards are bare. Therefore the Saugus Swap Meet is counting on the community’s generosity to ensure no one in the area will go hungry. Donations of unexpired canned foods will be accepted on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays during Swap Meet Market hours from 7:00am – 2:00pm at both shopper entrance gates and in the office, as well as on Mondays and Fridays during regular office hours from 8:00am – 4:00pm. (The office is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays.) All donations will benefit both the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry and the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. For more information, contact Sandra Medrano, Assistant Operations Manager at (661) 713- 0727 or email sandra.speedway@yahoo.com.

Burn The Fat And Feed The Hungry

January 2010 - Taryn Landberg of ‘Fit Body Boot Camp, Agoura Hills’, announces the February 13, 2010 ‘Burn the Fat, Feed the Hungry’ three hour Boot Camp aimed to raise money for the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission. “The current economic state has drastically reduced the amount of donations being made to charities and non-profit organizations. So we’ve decided to kill two birds with one stone. By encouraging local neighbors to come down for a (one day) three hour Boot Camp workout for a $25 fee and where 100% of the proceeds will go to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission to help feed the hungry – this is fitness with a purpose,” says Taryn Landberg, certified fitness coach and owner of Fit Body Boot Camp, Agoura Hills.  Read more...
